When you mention something online.

We all know, there isn’t too much context behind those words. ☹

Words can be solid, thick and barren… Me simply adding these smileys @ the end fills it your tension around reading this article… ☺ ☺ ☺[Hopefully]

I must admit, I actually discovered this theory/belief/concept whilst watching some Gary Vee’s #AskGaryVeeShow + also simply reading some of his reply tweets. As well as checking out a lot of other sources around the web.

EXAMPLE of his usage: See below.

Gary maintains a strong use of emoji throughout his conversations + also his main tweets. It is impressive and bring such great value.

SnapChat “added me” screen.

Snapchat knows what is happening. Throughout the Snapchat App signposted are usage of emoji despite being very images + videos focused.

That simple “poo” Emoji brings a certain level of weird humour to the table which clearly is their GOAL.

GOOGLE… using them?

Google have also started to allow these forms of expression through.

Google “emoji” into a web version of Google and just see the way they have implemented these…

Emoji have been around for years… We all know that.

BUT… This has been taken to a new level in the past 6 months. Marketers, Brands, Daily experiences and more use Emoji…

Emoji ☺ have started to be implemented across social media (by people + big brands), apps, daily productivity tools, blogs, texts and even natively via Email.

Bud Light tweet for July 4th.

People have bought into:

1 . the creative value of Emoji ☺ It’s different!

2 . the emotional value it offers to a conversation. ☺

How I’m using Emoji everywhere I can…. ☺ ☺

The aim of this post is to introduce Emoji into your daily systems.

Imagine a much more open and attractive looking interaction with a feeling of time and effort taken into applying normal conversations.

I will start with Social.

Social Media

Twitter is for all conversations with customers and fans of what you are talking about…

I manage the Social Media for FlashSticks — a language learning company in Birmingham. We offer awesome language Post-it Notes + a scanner app to help you learn across your day. It’s cool!!!

After a few weeks. I saw the potential to utlise the flags in conversations as well as Emoji to bring value to customers and to surprise, coversations have so much more flow and context to them. Here is an example of a few Tweets — Want more examples — hit “Tweets & Replies” here.

INSTAGRAM

We also implement this all over Instagram after looking into some Instagram Posts.

From the details of the Profile to the Posts directly + writing around them . It makes people feel more open + bring more value.

Awesome Figures of Instagram

Email Marketing

I’m no email marketer. Or professional here in this complex industry.

From experience, I’ve been playing around with Email Marketing and Emoji with some positive results. With these Emoji containing our message for the Title we have had such great open rates of 30%+… which I believe is good!

I will continue to test this one… ☺

DAILY APPS

As I mentioned Snapchat has started to pull something together.

Now, Productivity Apps are becoming more interesting with the usage of Emoji. See my Todoist account with implemented Emoji as of recently.

Here is my iPhone Screen — as you can see FOLDERS have been Emoji’d in relevance to what context I understand these smileys to be… You could have “computer” emoji for all your website editing based apps. There is so much potential with this.

CLOTHING…

Not sure I want to talk a great deal about this.

But recently companies have started to produce “Emoji” clothing. I kind of “get” the concept but not sure whether I’d be wearing them anytime soon. Maybe just 1 or 2 smileys… But not 20–30

SUMMARY

I’m not sure how long this trend will last. At the moment it is very FUN! ☺

I think adding these context points gives much more of a personal touch no matter how BRAND professional you want to be.

Morale of the story: Emoji are HOT right now… It might be the way forward.

ENABLE ON ANDROID

It’s tough to use on Android and you will need to implement on it unless you have a built-in emoji keyboard already!

Here is a great Article covering this.
