The Future of Productivity Software
It’s all about modular software for teams + individuals…

Personal and team productivity software… Where’s it all heading!?
This has been a question on many people’s minds over the last 10 years. Will there be this all-in-one productivity application? Or is it all about AI?!
Of course, we don’t know, but we can speculate and one of the BIGGEST trends right now, well, in the last 6 months, is modular software. Almost a build-your-own-productivity-app pack given to those productivity app experts to unwrap and create your own set-up

Let’s dive into a few of these points.
1. One Software To Rule Them All
Despite the push towards this “one ring to rule them all” app, there’s really no huge movement here to store everything in one application.
Still, to this day, no software hits all the winning features.
Each of the softwares that people come across do one or two things great. From calendar-focused apps to to-do apps, no one, hits the nail on the head.
Notion is the closest.
The newly introduce software is making waves, with their 2.0 update blowing people’s minds, even getting itself into the Wall Street Journal.
But there’s still the inability to bring together all your tasks, events + items in one view with Notion, one contextual place that has a view of what to do.
However… Notion impressing the notorious tech writer, David Pierce means is 100% on the right path.
All of the productivity softwares do there part great, but there’s still a lot of work to be done before we can do everything in just one application.
Modular Tools
Notion was one of the first of these “modular” softwares. Before then, Zenkit, a Trello competitor made waves with their software allowing you to craft custom fields and modify multiple layouts.
The most recent to make the leap, Airtable
Blocks by Airtable, added and hunted last week was raved about by many. Taking the ever-growing project management tool to new heights.

The concept of blocking or adding your own layouts to an “intranet” like resource shows people one simple thing.
Modular Software = Paper
We’ve learnt productivity apps. Let’s be fair. A new one gets released, we are all clued up within the first 30-minutes of using it, and now it’s all in your hands. Modular software pours this element of paper into play, you design the pages, you take control of the workflow, and you choose what goes where.
